Sitting Around at Work

When I sit in my office with the door open, I never have more than 5 minutes withot a student walking in, sitting down, and chatting.

Now.  Somedays, I really wish for the good ole part-time instructor days when the only students I saw were IN CLASS, and not a moment before or afterward.

However, most of the time, I am so utterly, completely, and totally grateful.

I know they trust me.

I know they stop what they are doing, turn into my neighborhood, and stop by.

I did not have many professors when I was in college that I felt like I could just stop by, sit down, and chat with.  College students NEED people they can trust.  I am so grateful I am one of them.

As is the proven pattern, I get much more from this than they.  I feel needed, wanted, chosen, even.  I feel like instead of eating with their friends, or studying for their physics, or uploading INSTAGRAM photos, they are choosing to spend their time with me.

Seriously!? Wow.  What an honor.  This week, I am so grateful to these young people with such hopes and dreams and aspirations.  I wish them success and joy, satisfaction, and inspiration from all those around them.  I sure am lucky to have the job that I do.  I go to work every day happy.  I realized last Sunday night, that I have not dreaded a new week ever... or new day of work.

Who else can say that? I am so, so blessed.
