Three Days at Marriott Ranch

Valerie is spending three days at Marriott Ranch from Monday-Wednesday. Sound luxurious?

That is totally deceptive.  She is going on a mormon Pioneer Trek.  It is not going to be plesant, or easy, or anything remotely luxurious.

I am really nervous for her.  Not only is Valerie 14 and really lucky with things in certain aspects, she does NOT do well with heat and humidity.  She literally breaks out in hives and has regularly for 3 years now.  I am praying for milder weather than forecast, her heart to be filled with gratitude and for her to know how much I love her and have sacrificed for her.  I also hope she is aware of how lucky she is to be born in a time when she did not have to walk and walk and walk and walk to escape persecution.

Prayers for our group would be great.  Valerie has a fit about not wanting to go every day.  I was feeling really badly about this, but then I talked to other parents whose youth are doing the same exact thing every day.  Still though, prayers, please.

I found 2 dresses at a second-hand mennonite shop.  They will not be using soap, deodrant, toothpaste... This is not luxury, by any means.

But they will laugh and talk and learn and not be distracted by iPods and cell phones and Facebook.  They will be able to learn and reflect about hardship, life, loss, love and the Gospel and the sacrifices that were made in order that people could celebrate it the way they believed they should.

Again, prayers please. For Valerie and her friends going... and for me. I need them too.

What a great opportunity to grow. It will be hard work and maybe even painful, as it was for the real pioneers, but she won't die. We'll pray for her to be safe and have a good growth experience.
