Anti-Mormon

You know... it really bothers me when someone says about me, or something that I post dimissively, "Well you are/that is anti-mormon."

It is as if nothing I say matters and that my thoughts, my research, my carefully articulated and well-founded criticisms go straight into a dumpster named "anti-mormon."

I suppose because of that, I really resent the label, however, a curious conversation took place a couple days ago that has me re-thinking that.

 ME: "How was your day?"

"oh it was fine- I went to church"

ME:  "hmmm.. fun... did you learn anything interesting?"

"Well, one teacher told us all about the cigarette industry and how they knew before ANYONE ELSE how dangerous and addictive cigarettes were. They did the data and, in FACT made them more addictive by adding things to keep people dependent on them. Once it was uncovered, there were all these court appearances, people were suing because they had cancer, some had even died... It is SO WRONG to keep things like that from people..."

I thought then: I am as anti-mormon as I am anti-smoking, which is in both cases- VERY.

 For the same reasons.

The irony, of course, is that the teacher in the LDS classroom has no idea the history and even the present that is being kept from her.

I have come a long way in recent years with my thoughts on things, and absolutely admit to being really frustrated by just about every "Smart" person who also is LDS. I get it on some level though-

However, I will always stand up for being able to look at history without feeling ashamed.

I will never defend an organization who actively hides important, and potentially dangerous truths from those who invest in a product.

Sometimes... a court case is what gets things going in terms of lies exposed, and truths being told...

March 14 is the day this will all go down... it is much more clever than it may appear to be.  Stay tuned.
