For Christmas I got something that I have been wanting at least 8- and more like 10 years...
I set out to start making dinner at 10 am because Matt is at work 7a-3p this week (heaven!) and I like to do things. I ain't much on TV or sitting still, so I keep busy.
I decided to make a tortilla espanola. This is a wonderful spanish creation I tried my one and only time at Mas a tapas bar in Charlottesville. Even 8 years ago, I still think of it fondly.
Well, literally 1 minute after scrubbing potatoes, etc, I tried to use the mandoline, and the handle kept popping off. I have this exact problem a LOT with Pampered Chef stuff, sooooooooo, I figured out how to get around the (many) safety devices and I made my first perfect slice, then 2, then 3, (getting faster) 4, 5 (this is getting close to my fingers I should.... HOLY CRAP!) In one motion, the top 1/4 '' of my left index finger was gone. The next few minutes are a blur, I immeadiately ran to the sink... and saw the flat top of my finger, then I passed out. Asher was like "dont worry about boo boo, I docker" and I was trying to stay calm. Then I ran to get bandaids and there was no blood anywhere- I was squeezing it- blood was all down my hand. Opening bandaids was fun. I passed out again, then Matt started calling as I found my (very white) finger tip and threw it down the sink.
| Trust me, you dont want anything more than this, although I do have a couple. These were for Matt's brother. |
It bled hard for 4 hours. I got a consult from Matt's brother, an ER doc. I did not want to try to get Asher dressed, in the car and go to the ER with him. That would have been a nightmare. Also, I don't really know who I would have called and I suspected that they'd just clean it, slap on some gauze, and charge me $300... Colin said that that is exactly what they would do, so I cleaned it and wrapped it and sat around with Asher till Matt got home, theeeen...
HE used the mandoline to slice potatoes and onions and WE created...
Sleep last night was no good, but it has not been throbbing all day. Last night though, I could tell I am at 66 BPM all night long. Shivers.
I almost passed out tonight cleaning it- it is UGLY and HURTS to take off the wrappings. Thank goodness, peroxide doesn't hurt a bit.
Anyway, next year, I am asking for this thing:
