Tuesday was a special day in Broadway, our town is super-tiny. One of the young men from here died in Afghanistan and his memorial and funeral services were Tuesday. Town pride and love for this young man and his family were running high. Part of the reason is because THESE HATERS were here. I really do not feel a lot of harsh feelings for many, but I do for that horrible group of freaks... Because of that sense of community, the swim meet that night was especially well-attended. Which always makes for interesting sites.
Valerie said when she saw her, her stomach started hurting so bad, she couldn't finish her first race... I am not sure how true the reasoning was, but she did not finish her first race. Thankfully, she finished the other three.
This was the third- she is third from the lead.
Thursday, we went to my friend's house, Korena's. She brought us chicken tikka masala. It was so delicious! Honestly, I love that dish and the local restaurant around here makes it as good as I have ever had. Whoda guessed that?! That makes the total of restaurants I LOVE in Harrisonburg all the way up to ONE.
We loved visiting Korena, she is an amazing woman and I feel like she was led to move here for many reasons, but one is definitely for me- as my friend and for Valerie- Alexis is Korena's daughter. She is so amazing. We love them both.
After THAT, I had to take Valerie and Kayla to horseback ride. The girls LOVED that and although it was super-hot (100) and humid, they all had a great time. Valerie asked about horse camp next summer- um. No. I checked into it and it is $1000 a week! Shudder!!
Valerie stayed for two MORE hours once her friends started showing up and of course, did not listen and got BURNT.
I have a feeling tonight is going to be fitful sleep for her.
The funniest thing was when I asked Valerie to get in the baby pool with Asher, she fell in with her jeans capris still on! I still don't know how she managed that, but she was flat on her back in the pool.
This week is just making it through. It is our typical very tight financial week. I am hoping for a miracle to get through till the next weekend. The young women are going to the temple Weds and I had planned going up with them, but I am pretty sure I will not be able to afford the gas and the food on the road. I am a little upset about that because of of the girls was sure she was not going (she has not been baptized YET), but I told her "Well, I am not going in, hang out with me, it will still be fun, I promise!!"
Sad, one day, I actually hope that simple things are not so hard to enjoy...
That being said though, I have a certain peace that is a great feeling. I just hope it is not the feeling of choosing to be oblivious ;-)
