Disappointment

Valerie found out after 3 days of 3 hours of practice that she did not make the cheerleading squad. I honestly had mixed feelings about her wanting to be a cheerleader, but I support her in everything she wants if she is willing to work for it. I did warn her, however, that her teachers evaluating her attitude might be an issue.

It was, it was cited as the primary reason she was not added to the squad. I was sure to tell her that this was the first tangible lesson about how important an attitude can be and that she can change it and work hard to be her best self and try out again next year.

Then. There was this. Jennifer and Michael found a gorgeous 4 bedroom/3 bathroom house with hot tub, 2 living rooms and a kitchen to die for!

After 2 days of negotiating with the owner about move-in time, deposit, first months' rent, trying to figure out how to best get out of their lease, etc... They GOT the house! Then... Michael had a weird feeling about it (actually I did too) and asked me to look up the realtor's phone number, I found it and...

It turns out the person they were dealing with was a SCAMMER totally using the realtor's name!
The scammer was a smart one though. It actually seemed legit.

AND!

No fewer than 10 people had already sent the scammer $1550 and who knows how many terminated their lease for this house. As Jennifer said, the scammer KNEW people looking at a house with 4 bedrooms has children and he did that knowingly. I bet there are some families with emergency housing situations because of this person. It is just really bothering that someone would do that!

I'm sorry for Valerie! I remember what a disappointment it was when I didn't make the cheerleading squad, the one and only time I tried out. But my problem was that I have about a 1 inch vertical jump!! I'm so glad you checked in to that realtor for your brother...people can be so terrible! I'm so glad they didn't lose any money.

It's a hard one. Cheerleading is like other athletics. When a kid doesn't make the team, they feel terrible, but later when they're more matured/confident, they think, "How stupid was that. Why did I even care?" If they do make it, the true value of that involvement ends up being much different than they had originally anticipated. Either way, things turn out well in the end. She's a great kid.

That was allllll Michael, he then figured out the exact location of the scammer (in Nigeria), his name, his internet provider, his email, etc and alerted local, state and national law enforcement. He scammer was contacted and the local news did a story on it. So SO! bad, but my brother is very, very smart!~

As for cheerleading, I cried when I did not make it once, then tried out again and made it, but moved back to Virginia from Missouri. I liked the really cute outfit and the idea of traveling with the boys...

Funny how those two reasons are exactly why I DID NOT want Valerie to make the squad... but my heart was aching for her. She did not cry until we were safely in the car and away from her peers...
